Hidden Festival Gems
We all know about Glastonbury, V Festival and Creamfields, but we have dug a little deeper to find you some real gems that you may not have heard of before.
- The Wicker Man Festival (20th – 21st July)
East Kirkcarswell, near Dundrennan, Scotland.
Known as Scotland’s alternative music festival, based around the British horror film “The Wicker Man, it offers a mix of music to suit everyone. The weekend comes to a close on Saturday at midnight when the giant 30 ft Wickerman is set on fire to blaze until early hours.
- Bingley Music Live (1st – 2nd September)
Myrtle Park, Bingley, West Yorkshire.
One of the newest festivals in the UK, with only a 15,000 capacity Bingley is known as one of the most intimate events of summer. Even though the festival features much talked about artists, it still showcases local talent from around the region gives bands and solo artists the chance to perform with highly commended artists.
- Run to the Sun (1st – 4th June)
Trevelgue Holiday Park, Porth, Newquay.
Its main attraction is the vast amount of VWs and custom cars taking part in the Run to the Sun Cruise, this one off experience allows car owners to drive from the start location Reading to the event. This anything goes festival, providing three nights of DJs, visual performances, live bands and stand up comedy.
- Lounge on the Farm (8th – 10th July)
Merton Farm, Canterbury, Kent.
Lounge on the Farm festival surrounded by idyllic scenery and relaxed atmosphere. The farm has six stages with over 160 bands playing over the weekend; other things you can get involved in are things such as going to the outdoor cinema, watching campfire performances, watch comedy acts and much more!
- Standon-Calling Festival (3rd – 5th August)
Standon Lordship, Standon, London.
A boutique themed festival is on the grounds of the 16th century manor house in Hertfordshire that started as a friendly barbeque in 2001. This is a great place to see artists that are just about to break through in to main stream, such as the previous guest Florence and the machine.
- Kendal Calling (27th – 29th July)
Lowther Deer Park, Lake District.
Kendal Calling festival is based around having a great time, seeing original quality acts rather than the newest media hyped bands. Other than the main stage it offers acoustic acts, festival entertainers and great beer and food tents and its all set in attractive Lake District surroundings.
- Parklife (9th – 10th June)
Platt Fields Park, Manchester.
This festival is great for local students living in Manchester, helping kick off your summer. Parklife provides you with a value for money event over two days, with six areas, silent discos, secret gardens, tea rooms and much more.
- The Secret Garden Party (19th – 22nd July)
Abbots Ripton, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire.
Set in 10 acres of gardens next to a lake and river in Cambridgeshire, it is known more for being a party experience. It is overflowing with imagination, colour and surprises and a great chance to get away from reality for four days.
